Working Together
What does a typical 1:1 with Jenna look like?
My online 1:1 sessions are bespoke for the individual student. Working with me 1:1 allows for analysis of a student’s strengths and weaknesses and enables me to provide a solution focused around short and long term goals. I scaffold to develop confidence and aim to support students to show what they are capable of.
Sessions include:
Review of previous learning:
Retrieval practice through interactive activities on the content of previous sessions to recap content from previous sessions and embed information into the long term memory
The opportunity for individualised feedback on independent homework activities every session
Skill development - targeted questions to hone exam skills and ensure progress
Bespoke focus for the session:
With my 1:1 students, my sessions are tailored to their needs so we identify areas of focus together. We may go over content with matrices and visual tasks to reduce cognitive load and develop understanding or spend time practising exam questions. We use Google Classroom so that we can work collaboratively in a safe, relaxed environment.
Guidance on exam technique and revision skills including:
Question deconstruction with a focus on assessment objectives
Analysis of student model answers and examiner marking activities to learn what an examiner looks for
Rewriting lower grade exam responses to develop effective evaluation skills
Timed examination practice with immediate feedback to improve understanding
Independent work task set every session for consolidation
Assistance with prioritisation of tasks and time management as appropriate

About Jenna
Hi, I’m Jenna, a qualified teacher with over 16 years of Psychology teaching and tutoring experience. I have a proven track record with results: when working as a head of department in both the state and independent sectors, my departmental results were always in at least the top 10% of departments in the country (In 2022, 40% A-A*, 80% A*-B in a non-selective school). I have extensive experience of working with English as an additional language and SEND pupils which means I can support them effectively.
I have taught thousands of hours of Psychology A Level and spent hundreds of hours marking as an examiner and assessment specialist for UK and international examination boards at both GCSE and A level so I guide my students to understand what examiners are looking for.
I taught research methods at postgraduate level working as an Honorary Lecturer for UCL Medical school. This means I have absolute confidence in teaching research methods which is often a challenging topic for students and teachers alike.
I have been lucky enough to be able to share my expertise with others, delivering professional development courses for teachers in the UK and internationally in my role as a trainer for Cambridge and for trainee teachers as a guest speaker at the University of Exeter.
Over the years I have loved supporting students to reach their full potential in a subject which I am passionate about. My mission is to provide as many students as possible with the individualised support they need to build confidence and overcome their barriers to learning. My tutoring approach is both supportive and challenging, allowing individuals to thrive and be motivated to achieve their very best.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to do an assessment?
No, but in our discussion before starting tuition I speak to students and parents about strengths and weaknesses. Students can also send pieces of work such as examination papers from school, so that I can analyse performance. To tell me about your individual needs, get in touch.
Can I book an ad hoc 1:1?
Absolutely! I offer ad hoc 1:1 sessions in the school holidays and during term time by special arrangement. You can get in touch to discuss my availability.
Do you run sessions in the holidays?
Yes. I offer ad hoc 1:1 sessions which can be booked via my parent portal and my popular Masterclasses also run in the holidays to support mock and final exam preparation and revision.
What happens if I miss a session?
I ask for 48 hours notice if you wish to change a 1:1 session and I endeavour to reschedule these 1:1 sessions where possible.
Do I have to have my camera on?
Having a camera on is really helpful for me as a tutor, it allows me to get additional feedback on how your child is finding the session. If there is a reason why your child doesn’t want to have the camera on then they can try with a camera off if this makes them more comfortable and means they can engage with the session.
Do students complete past examination questions?
Of course! We usually work on examination questions in our sessions – often two or three!
Do you set homework assignments and give feedback?
Absolutely! My 1:1 students complete homework every session and are given individualised feedback.
Do you offer refunds?
No, I meet with parents and students for a free no-obligation Zoom call to outline how my tuition works and answer questions. If you try an initial session and decide it’s not for you then you can let me know. Once you’ve committed after the trial session parents/carers pay on a monthly basis so there is no long term commitment.
